It’s 2007. Bowie is still alive, no one is glued to their phones, and Jess’s future is planned out. She’s at university with her boyfriend, Robert. Her lonely days before she met him are over, and she never wants to go back to being on her own. After uni, they’ll move to London, and she’ll become the businesswoman in a high-rise building that she’s always dreamed of. Then they’ll get married, have two children, and she will have made it. It’s all within her grasp.

At a party in second year, she meets Astrid, who shares her love of Bowie and introduces her to a world of adventure and possibilities. They strike up a friendship – Astrid the musician, Jess the writer. Astrid encourages Jess to explore her creative side and gives her permission to question what she wants from life.
